Chair's comment
Ahead of the session, Committee Chair David TC Davies commented:
"S4C faces another period of uncertainty following the review's delay. We hope to establish whether there has been any constructive consultation between the Government and S4C ahead of the proposed review. It is essential that any future funding streams are made clear, to ensure the Channel can continue to make long term financial and editorial plans, and operate effectively to serve Welsh-speaking audiences in Wales and elsewhere."
Background
In 2015, the Government announced a 25% reduction to S4C's grant. This was subsequently frozen for the duration of a proposed review. Yet details of the review's timetable, terms of reference or Chairperson are yet to been announced. Given this delay, it remains unclear if the Channel faces another reduction in the Government's grant over the coming year.
