Independent media companies questioned on broadcasting in Wales
15 January 2016
The Welsh Affairs Committee holds an evidence session in Caernarfon as part of their inquiry into broadcasting in Wales. The Committee takes evidence from representatives of some of the successful media companies in Wales. Following the success of the evidence session in Westminster, the Committee is conducting the session entirely in Welsh.
Monday 18 January, Galeri, Doc Fictoria, Caernarfon, Gwynedd
- Iestyn Garlick, Chair, TAC (Teledwyr Annibynnol Cymru) and Antena productions
- Gareth Williams, Rondo Media
- Dylan Huws, Cwmni Da
- Nia Thomas, Boom Cymru/Boom Pictures
Committee chairman David TC Davies said:
"It is always exciting to visit areas that are developing into hubs of the creative industry. The committee will be looking at how Caernarfon and North West Wales came to play host to so many production companies and what can be done to support them.
We will also be looking at how they see the future of Welsh language programming. This has played such an important part in promoting Welsh culture, but faces potential funding restrictions in the future. As companies who produce a range of broadcasting in Welsh and English, where do they see the financial future of their companies lying.
We will be holding a public evidence session at Galeri, Doc Fictoria in Caernarfon where local businesses Antena productions, Rondo Media, Boom Cymru and Cwmni Da will be appearing, I would encourage anyone with an interest in creative media, or the political process itself, to come along."
