Committee visit HMP Styal and North Wales Women's Centre
12 December 2018
The Welsh Affairs Committee investigates rehabilitation and reducing reoffending amongst Welsh women offenders in a visit to a women's prison in Cheshire and then a women's community centre in north Wales.
HMP Styal
The Welsh Affairs Committee will continue its inquiry into Prison Provision in Wales with a visit to HMP Styal, a prison in Cheshire for adult women and some young offenders. There is no women's prison in Wales. Styal is the nearest facility for many women offenders, and houses a significant number of Welsh women offenders from north Wales.
North Wales Women's Centre, Rhyl
The Committee will also be visiting a nearby women's centre in north Wales. The North Wales Women's Centre in Rhyl aims to cultivate and advance the social and economic development of local women. An ‘Information and Support' service is provided to vulnerable women faced with complex issues such as domestic violence, homelessness and poverty.
