Purpose of the session
The session examines the current standard of performance and what improvements could be made to the network as part of the next franchise.
The Wales and Borders franchise covers the majority of rail services in Wales and is currently managed by Arriva. The bidding process for appointing the next operator will be carried out next year ahead of the current contract ending on October 2018.
Chair's comments
Ahead of the session, David TC Davies, Chair of the Welsh Affairs Committee, commented:
"We launched this inquiry to ensure that, as the bidding process to run the Wales and Borders rail franchise begins next year, we are fully aware of the current state of rail travel in Wales and the issues it faces.
This session will help us evaluate how rail services are currently performing and what improvements we can realistically expect when the new franchise is awarded next year."
