Committee appoints specialist advisers for restoration of Parliament inquiry

The Treasury Committee announces the appointment of four specialist advisers on its inquiry into the Restoration and Renewal of the Palace of Westminster: Paula Diggle, Tim Lankester, Dr Darryl Murphy and Richard Steer.

Commenting on the announcement, Andrew Tyrie MP, Chairman of the Treasury Committee, said:

"The House of Commons was due to vote on the Restoration and Renewal of the Palace of Westminster this week, but the debate has been postponed.

Considerable interest and concern have been expressed about the project across Parliament.

The Committee has appointed four specialist advisers to assist its scrutiny of the proposals. We will attempt to ensure that Parliament has more of the evidence it needs to enable Parliament and the public to make an informed decision on this massive restoration project."

Specialist Advisers

Further details of the four specialist advisers appointed: 

  • Tim Lankester – Over 20 years of experience in the British Civil Service. Former Permanent Secretary, Department for Education.
  • Dr Darryl Murphy – Partner, KPMG Corporate Finance Infrastructure. Darryl has 20 years' experience in infrastructure financing, having worked at Hambros Bank, Societe Generale, CIT Group, RBC Capital Markets and HSBC.
  • Richard Steer – Chairman, Gleeds Worldwide. Gleeds' work in the UK includes Hinkley Point C, the BBC's Broadcasting House and Media City Salford, HS2 and Crossrail.
  • Paula Diggle – Most of her career was in the Treasury, where she served as the Treasury Officer of Accounts from 2006 to 2014.
