FCA and FOS sent letters by MPs on departure of Chief Ombudsman
11 February 2025
The Treasury Committee has written to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) about the circumstances which surrounded the departure of the Chief Ombudsman, Abby Thomas, last week.
- Letter from Chair to the FCA relating to Chief Ombudsman departure
- Letter from Chair to the FOS relating to Chief Ombudsman departure
- Watch: Work of Financial Ombudsman Service evidence session
- Treasury Committee
The correspondence follows a session earlier today (Tuesday 11 February) in which members of the Committee were not satisfied that they received the answers to their questions on the subject.
In the letters, MPs raise concerns that the circumstances surrounding Ms Thomas' departure did not appear to be fully shared with the Committee. This has prevented Members from forming a full understanding of the process which led to her exit and what it means for the administration of the FOS, the correspondence goes on to say.
Among its list of requests, the Committee asks for further information on the events which surrounded Ms Thomas’ departure and the nature of the discussions as they progressed.
MPs have also requested information on any settlement agreed with Ms Thomas and whether senior officials had concerns regarding her performance.
