Appointment of new FCA Chair scrutinised by Treasury Committee

9 December 2022

The Treasury Committee holds a pre-commencement hearing scrutinising the appointment of Ashley Alder as Chair of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

The Government announced their intention to appoint Mr Alder as Chair in July, and his appointment is due to begin on 20 February 2023. During the hearing, MPs will assess whether Mr Alder has the required personal independence and appropriate professional competence for the role.

The Chair of the FCA is responsible for ensuring the FCA’s strategy is formulated clearly and provides a source of counsel and challenge to the Chief Executive.

The Committee will produce a short report on the appointment in the days following the appointment.
