Committee asks Chancellor to confirm arrangements for devolved administrations following Budget delay

1 October 2020

Rt Hon. Rishi Sunak MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer, wrote to Rt Hon. Mel Stride MP, Chair of the Treasury Committee, earlier this month to confirm that he has asked the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) to prepare an economic update and fiscal forecast to be published in mid- to late November.

The Chancellor recently confirmed that the next Budget will be deferred to spring 2021.

Mr Stride has written to the Chancellor today to ask what arrangements have been put in place for devolved administrations, who need time before the end of the financial year to set their own budgets.

Chair's comments

Commenting on the correspondence, Mr Stride said:

“The move to an autumn Budget provided devolved administrations with more time to act on announcements before the end of the financial year.

“The Committee has asked the Chancellor to set out the actions that he will take to mitigate the effects of the delayed Budget.”
