Purpose of the session

According to research, one of the biggest barriers to switching from fossil fuel vehicles to electric vehicles is a lack of public charging points. The Committee will speak with charge point operators, the National Grid, and regional and local transport representatives to explore issues around rolling out sufficient charging infrastructure to meet peoples’ needs.

The likely topics for discussion include:

  • The charging infrastructure required to reach the 2030 phase out of new petrol and diesel vehicle sales
  • The best way to manage energy demand
  • The customer experience of using public charge points
  • Issues around upgrading grid capacity at charging locations
  • The Government’s Project Rapid and the rapid charge fund
  • The regional and local lessons of rolling out charging infrastructure
  • Ensuring charging access for all, including on-street charging, place-based solutions and issues facing rural communities
