Committee to hold evidence session on transport network pressures over Christmas

10 December 2020

This is a one-off evidence session to question Sir Peter Hendy CBE, who has been appointed as the Secretary of State for Transport’s Adviser on Christmas travel preparedness.

Background

Due to coronavirus restrictions this Christmas, the public are only permitted to travel between 23 and 27 December. This has led to concerns that the transport network, which is usually under pressure at Christmas in regular times, will be particularly busy this year given the shorter travel window and reduced capacity on trains and other public transport modes due to social distancing measures.

Sir Peter has been tasked with providing “rigorous scrutiny of the plans of all rail, road, coach, maritime and aviation operators” and ensuring a “collective focus across the transport industry on minimising disruption and supporting passengers”.

Witnesses
