Arms Trade Treaty: Implementation, enforcement and effect examined

19 July 2016

The Committees on Arms Export Controls (CAEC) continue their inquiry into the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) where they will examine the implementation of the ATT by the United Kingdom and others, and its effect on defence exports to Saudi Arabia.

Wednesday 20 July 2016, Committee Room 16, Palace of Westminster

At 9.30am

  • Dr Anna Stavrinakis, University of Sussex

Purpose of session

The session aims to cover:

  • How effective is the Arms Trade Treaty?
  • Should it have a dedicated enforcement agency or should countries remain self-policing?
  • How compatible is the outcome of the Defence and Security Review with ATT?
  • Will the vote to leave the EU have any impact on UK arms export policy and procedures?
