Spending Review comment – Patricia Ferguson, Scottish Affairs Committee Chair, comments on carbon capture tech and defence

11 June 2025

The Chair of the Scottish Affairs Committee has commented on today’s Spending Review from the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Chair quote

Patricia Ferguson MP said: “A successful and just energy transition is crucial for Scotland’s future, so it's vital we invest in low carbon technology. I therefore welcome the Chancellor’s announcement of funding for Project Acorn, the carbon capture project based in St Fergus, and am pleased that the North-East of Scotland can continue to play a leading role in the energy sector.

“The Chancellor’s announcement of spending in Scotland’s vital defence sector, which supports thousands of jobs, is also welcome news. The committee plans to look closely at how this money will be spent, as well as its impact on Scottish communities.”
