Scottish Affairs Committee Chair to make statement on Committee report, Access to Cash in Scotland

14 July 2022

This afternoon, Chair of the Scottish Affairs Committee Pete Wishart MP will be making a statement in Westminster Hall following the Committee’s recent publication of its Access to cash in Scotland report.

Following the statement, Members of Parliament will have the opportunity to ask the Chair questions about the report.

The Committee published the report on Monday 11th July, warning that half a million people across Scotland risk losing the ability to access their cash due to bank branch closures across the nation. Of all UK nations, Scotland has experienced the highest percentage loss of branch closures at 53% since 2015. The Committee argues that while voluntary initiatives by the banking sector are welcome, legislation by the Government is needed to these are long-term commitments that can secure access to cash long into the future.
