Energy Minister gives evidence on renewable energy projects in Scotland

The Scottish Affairs Committee takes evidence from Andrea Leadsom, the UK Energy Minister and Lord Dunlop, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Scotland, with the focus on the impact of UK Government policy on renewable energy projects in Scotland.

Purpose of the session

The Committee will be challenging the Government on how it considers Scottish interests, and finding out what role the Scotland Office plays in representing Scotland's renewable sector.

Chair's comments

Committee Chairman Pete Wishart commented:

"We know that Scotland has great capacity for producing energy from natural resources, and this can play a vital role in the UK's commitment to reduce carbon emissions. We will be asking the Government what they are doing to support investment in renewable technology, whether they have a long-term plan for meeting the UK's legally-binding carbon emission targets, and how this will be achieved.
At last week's session the Scottish Government told us that they had not been consulted on recent changes to support for renewables, so we will also be asking how the UK Government considers the impact on Scotland of changes to UK-wide energy policies, and whether the Scotland Office is fulfilling its role of representing Scottish interests within Government."
