Committee examines Scotland Office and English Votes for English Laws
18 August 2015
In September and October 2015 the Scottish Affairs Committee holds sessions in London on English Votes for English Laws, and the work of the Scotland Office.
English Votes for English Laws
The Committee holds an evidence session at 10.30am on Tuesday 8 September looking at the Government's proposals for English Votes for English Laws (EVEL).
Pete Wishart MP, Chair of the Committee, said:
"English votes for English laws is being introduced without legislation with Parliament being invited to consider an issue of significant constitutional significance at breakneck speed.
EVEL has huge implications for Scottish representation in Westminster and the Committee will ensure that the Government's proposals are subject to proper scrutiny before MPs vote."
The Committee hears from:
- Charlie Jeffery, Professor of Politics and Senior Vice-Principal, University of Edinburgh
- Sir William McKay, former Clerk of the House of Commons and chair of the Commission on the consequences of devolution for the House of Commons
- Michael Clancy OBE, Director of Law Reform, Law Society of Scotland
