Secretary of State discusses Immigration Bill

Having heard proposals from the Scottish Government about how it wishes to respond to Scotland's demographic and employment trends, the Committee will discuss the UK Government's assessment of Scotland's migration needs, and its proposals for how these could be met in the future, ahead of the expected Immigration White Paper.
 
The Committee is expected to seek further information from the Secretary of State and Minister on the expected timetable for the publication of both the immigration White Paper and Immigration Bill, and their contents. It will also explore how the Scottish Government proposals are feeding into immigration policy development, and the implications of the UK's withdrawal from the EU on the rights of EU nationals currently resident in Scotland, as well as citizens from non-EU countries.

"Over the course of our inquiry, the Committee has examined a number of key questions relating to Scotland's current and future population needs, migration policy, and the possible impact of Brexit on long-term demographic and employment trends.

As we await a White Paper on immigration, and the expected publication of an Immigration Bill in Parliament, we are looking forward to gaining an insight from the Secretary of State and Minister into the current state of the UK Government's thinking on these, and other issues that are critical to the future of Scotland's economy and society."
