Scottish Government questioned on their vision of Scotland's place in Europe

The Scottish Affairs Committee continue their inquiry into Scotland's place in Europe when they hear evidence from Scottish Ministers and Officials.

Purpose of the session

The session will examine the Scottish Government's priorities in light of the EU referendum where Scotland voted to remain, at odds with the leave vote of the United Kingdom as a whole.

The Committee will ask what future relationship the Scottish Government wants the UK to have with the EU, and whether it is viable for Scotland to have a differential relationship with the EU.

The Committee will also investigate what role the Scottish Government will play in the development of a UK position on Brexit, and in the UK's negotiations with the EU.

Chair's comments

Committee Chair Pete Wishart commented:

"While the details of what the UK Government sees post-Brexit Britain looking like remain unclear, one thing we do know is that they plan to take Scotland out of the European Union.
We will be asking Mr Russell what future relationship with the EU the Scottish Government wants for Scotland, and how this can be achieved."
