Committee to question Google, TikTok, Meta and X

The Science, Innovation and Technology Committee will hear from Google and the social media companies TikTok, Meta and X as part of its inquiry into misinformation and harmful algorithms.  

At 9:45am: 

In the morning, the cross-party committee will speak to Google. Members are likely to explore measures that the company uses to prevent misleading and harmful content appearing in search results, the impact of generative AI on mis/disinformation, and Google’s use of AI-infused search features. Questions could also cover the regulation and transparency of the digital advertising market, and the impact of the Online Safety Act.  

At 2:30pm: 

In the afternoon, members will hear from TikTok, Meta and X. MPs are likely to discuss social media algorithms and whether they contribute to the spread of misleading and harmful content online. They may also seek views on the methods platforms use to moderate content, challenges around generative AI on social media, and the transparency and accountability of social media platforms.
