Minister questioned on science budget

The Science and Technology Committee take evidence from Jo Johnson MP, the new Minister of State for Universities and Science, and key personnel in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, as part of its new inquiry on the science budget. The Committee will also question representatives of the Royal Society, the Royal Academy of Engineering, the British Academy and the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Purpose of the session
The session serves two purposes: an initial meeting with the new Minister of State for Universities and Science and senior officials from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills as well as representatives from the four national academies; and to begin an examination of the Science Budget. The hearing will examine a range of issues and how these reflect the need for Government science expenditure ahead of the Spending Review in the Autumn, including:
- the Government's priorities for science and technology
- resource implications
