Committee to take evidence on the Emergency Services Network (ESN)

A PAC report in January 2017 concluded that the ESN programme was high-risk with a timetable unlikely to be met. The NAO's 2019 report found that implementing ESN is now expected to cost £9.3 billion to 2037, an increase of £3.1 billion (49%) from the 2015 business case.

The ESN is the Government's preferred option to replace the Airwave system as a means of the emergency services communicating between control rooms and the field.

The Committee will have the chance to follow-up on the progress being made with the programme implementation as well as explore concerns over technology and commercial risks and affordability.
