Chair: Businesses need certainty about post-Brexit customs

28 June 2018

Public Accounts Committee Chair Meg Hillier MP has commented on today's National Audit Office report examining progress with the Customs Declaration Service.

The Committee Chair, Meg Hillier MP, comments:

"Businesses need certainty about how customs systems will work after we leave the EU.

But a number of risks remain for HMRC to not only deliver its new Customs Declaration Service but to give traders time to adapt to a new system. The programme is running to the wire.

And CDS is just a small part of what HMRC and Government needs to do to be Brexit-ready. The Government has a mountain to climb to deliver safe, secure borders in time."
