6 May 2025

Representatives from the Department of Health and Social Care will give evidence to the Procedure Committee on Wednesday 7 May, for the Committee’s inquiry into Written Parliamentary Questions: Departmental performance in Session 2024-25.

Appearing before the Committee at 3pm are:

  • Karin Smyth MP, Minister of State at Department of Health and Social Care
  • Tom Riordan CBE, Second Permanent Secretary at Department of Health and Social Care

Witnesses will be asked about whether the department has sufficient resourcing to respond to the level of demand from MPs via written parliamentary questions (WPQs), what processes the department has put in place to respond to WPQs on time, and whether there will be any impact on WPQ response timelines following the recent announcement to take over the functions of NHS England.

The evidence session will be broadcast on Parliament Live from 3pm on Wednesday 7 May.
