Witness

Wednesday 21 November in the Grimond Room, Portcullis House

At 9.30am

  • Rt Hon Karen Bradley MP, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland

Purpose of the session

In the continued absence of a devolved Government, the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee seeks an update from the Secretary of State on efforts to re-establish an Executive. The Committee will also question the Secretary of State on the implications of the proposed backstop contained in the EU Withdrawal Agreement.

In October, The Northern Ireland (Executive Formation and Exercise of Functions) Act 2018 came into force, enabling senior civil servants in Northern Ireland to take decisions in the absence of Ministers. The Committee will question the Secretary of State on the implications of the Act.

In May, the Northern Ireland Office launched a public consultation on addressing the legacy of Northern Ireland's past. The session will examine the ongoing consultation and the work of the Northern Ireland Office on legacy issues.
