NI Committee visit County Down as part of fishing inquiry

Purpose of the session

In the afternoon, the Committee will hold a formal evidence session, open to the public, where they will hear from local fishermen about the current state of the sector in Northern Ireland. It will examine the impact of the Common Fisheries Policy and look at what aspects should be replicated in the UK's post-Brexit fisheries policy, and which should be reformed. The Committee will also hear from the Loughs Agency, a North/South body tasked with management and conservation of cross-border Loughs Foyle and Carlingford.

This will be preceded by a visit to the fishing port of Portavogie in the morning where the Committee will tour the harbour, visit fish processing facilities and speak to local operators.
