Promoting Northern Ireland's tourism through VAT cuts examined

The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee holds its first public evidence session into how HM Government can help to promote the tourism industry in Northern Ireland through the tax system.

Purpose of the Session

  • To consider how a UK-wide cut in VAT on hotel accommodation and cultural attractions would benefit Northern Ireland
  • To examine the potential effects of a VAT reduction on tax revenues to the Exchequer
  • To suggest other tax changes that HM Government could implement to support tourism in Northern Ireland
