Purpose of the session

As the UK Government begins establishing an independent fisheries policy, and ahead of the formal publication of the Fisheries White Paper, the session will investigate how future policy will differ from the status quo. The Committee examines what approach the Government is planning to take on key questions, such as quota allocation and access to territorial waters, both during the implementation phase and when Brexit is complete. It will also look at what contingencies are in place for a ‘No Deal' scenario.

The Committee will also examine what evidence base is informing the Government's policy decisions. In the absence of the Northern Ireland Executive, how has the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs engaged with, and understood, the views of Northern Ireland fishing industry and the communities that rely on it.
