Witnesses

At 9.30am

Wednesday 10 January 2018, Committee Room 8, House of Commons

  • Richard Harrington MP, Minister for Energy and Industry, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
  • Paul Griffiths, Head of Civil Aerospace, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
  • Amanda Brooks, Director, Trade Remedies, Access and Controls, Department for International Trade

Boeing and Bombardier

Central to the on-going dispute between Boeing and Bombardier, which has led to the imposition of almost 300% tariffs on aircraft partially produced in Belfast, has been state aid. Boeing have argued that the UK Government and Invest NI, provided funding which, along with further financial support from the Government of Quebec, gave the C-series programme an unfair advantage in a highly competitive market. The session will examine what processes and checks the UK Government made ahead of providing assistance to Bombardier and what their response has been to the claims made by Boeing.

The Committee also examines the impact at a local level, particularly the work the Government is doing to support manufacturing in Northern Ireland.
