NI horticulture and arable farming sector examined

The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee hears from Growers who operate in very different circumstances from livestock farmers and who will encounter distinct challenges and opportunities when the UK leaves the European Union.

Purpose of the session
The Committee will explore how the sector can be encouraged to develop and prosper under a new agriculture policy, and seek farmers views on the UK Government's ongoing Health and Harmony consultation. A key issue will be ensuring growers are able to access the agricultural workforce on which the sector relies, but other topics for discussion will be trading opportunities after Brexit and mechanisms for ensuring food and plant health standards are maintained.
