Liaison Committee announces forthcoming session with Prime Minister

23 June 2023

The Prime Minister will be questioned by Select Committee Chairs on Tuesday 4 July.

The session will begin at 2pm and usually lasts for 90 minutes.

Details of participating Chairs and likely themes for discussion will be announced in due course.

The Liaison Committee includes all the chairs from the House of Commons select committees. Chaired by Sir Bernard Jenkin MP, it considers the overall work of select committees, promotes effective scrutiny of Government and chooses committee reports for debates. Members also question the Prime Minister about policy at regular intervals.

The last PM session took place on 28 March, 2023. The transcript is available here.

The Committee has recently launched an inquiry into select committee scrutiny of strategic thinking across Whitehall. It will explore how the Government approaches the development, delivery and updating of key strategic plans across its departments. This will ensure that Parliament can provide constructive, cross-party oversight and challenge on some of the most concerning issues facing the UK today, some of which may span several Parliaments. The closing date for written evidence is September 15, 2023. Further details on the inquiry available here.
