Purpose of the session
The purpose of this session is to examine the Ministry of Justice's strategy for
i) reform of the prison estate, including digital transformation and
ii) cross-government work to reduce offending, in the context of current and future pressures on the prison system up to 2022, including:
- update on the prison estate transformation and digital transformation programmes
- how prisons respond to and seek to rehabilitate
- the resources and provision available to prevent people going into prison and returning
- the implementation of the Employment and Education Strategy, the Accommodation Strategy and the Farmer Review
