Report published on appointment of HM Chief Inspectors

27 November 2015

The Justice Committee publishes its Third Report of Session 2015–16, Appointment of HM Chief Inspector of Prisons and HM Chief Inspector of Probation today as HC 624.

The Report follows a pre-appointment scrutiny hearing which the Committee held on Tuesday 24 November with Mr Peter Clarke, the Secretary of State's preferred candidate for HM Chief Inspector of Prisons, and Glenys Stacey, the preferred candidate for HM Chief Inspector of Probation.

On a point of clarification, Glenys Stacey has asked us to make it clear that she did not say that the telephone call she received from the Secretary of State drawing her attention to the recruitment process for the two Chief Inspector posts took place before the advertisement for the posts had been published, as stated in paragraph 7 of our Report, and that the call took place after the posts were advertised.

Copies of published reports may be obtained from the Parliamentary Bookshop and the Stationery Office (details below) and the text will be available via the Committee's website, www.parliament.uk/justicecttee upon publication.
