Justice Committee: weekly update

At the end of sitting weeks the Justice Committee publishes a brief summary of its activities in the form of a weekly update.
This week's meeting
The Committee held an informal seminar on the disclosure of youth criminal records on Tuesday 13 December. On Wednesday 14 December, it took evidence from Governors and Executive Governors of reform prisons on prison reform in the morning, then in the afternoon from Sir Oliver Heald QC, Minister of State for Courts and Justice, on the Government response to the Committee's report on courts and tribunals fees.

The Committee has four ongoing inquiries:

- Sub-inquiry: Prison reform: Governor empowerment and prison performance (The strict deadline for submissions to this sub-inquiry is Monday 9 January 2017.)
- Inquiry: The implications of Brexit for the justice system (The initial deadline for submissions to this inquiry was Friday 11 November. The Committee is continuing to accept submissions. The first oral evidence session is on Tuesday 20 December.)
- Inquiry: Disclosure of youth criminal records (The initial deadline for submissions to this inquiry was Friday 11 November. The Committee is continuing to accept submissions.)
- Inquiry: The implications of Brexit for the Crown Dependencies (The initial deadline for submissions to this inquiry was Friday 18 November. The Committee is continuing to accept submissions.)
Future business
The Committee's final meeting before the Christmas recess is on Tuesday 20 December, for the first public session on Implications of Brexit for the justice system at 9.45am.
