Justice Committee to question Ministry of Justice Permanent Secretary amid multiple challenges across courts, prisons and probation

The Justice Committee will hear from the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Justice Dame Antonia Romeo and other senior officials during an evidence session in Parliament on Tuesday 4 March on the work of the Department.

Dame Antonia is the principal accounting officer for the MoJ group, accountable to Parliament for the running of the Department and the management of its budget. She is not accountable for the MoJ policy and has been in post since January 2021.
MPs on the cross-party Committee, chaired by Labour MP Andy Slaughter, will discuss the Ministry of Justice’s Annual Report and Accounts for the year ending 31 March 2024, which were published in November 2024.
They will also focus on topical areas within the MoJ’s policy remit, including staffing, prison building, the HMCTS Reform Programme, contracting and probation.
