Justice Committee to hold first evidence session of its rehabilitation and resettlement inquiry: ending the cycle of reoffending

The Justice Committee will hear from organisations and charities working across prisons and probation during the first evidence session in Parliament on Tuesday 4 February of its inquiry ‘Rehabilitation and resettlement: ending the cycle of reoffending’.

MPs on the cross-party Committee, chaired by Labour MP Andy Slaughter, will examine the rehabilitative regimes for those in prisons and on probation, Government policy and guidance and whether what is offered is sufficient and being delivered effectively.
The inquiry will also look at reoffending rates in England and Wales and assess the current rehabilitation offers within different types of prisons, including training, education and purposeful activity.
In addition, the inquiry will also measure the adequacy of support provided to ex-offenders on release including homelessness prevention, employment opportunities and health and wellbeing services, as well as the role of non-custodial sentences in promoting rehabilitation amid the Sentencing Review.
