At 3.00pm

  • Luke Taylor, Representative of Telecommunications UK Fraud Forum
  • Katy Worobec, Managing Director, Economic Fraud at UK Finance
  • Lulu Freemont, Head of Digital Regulation at Tech UK

At 4.00pm

  • Damian Hinds MP, Minister for Security and Borders

Fraud is the most commonly experienced form of crime in England and Wales. The 875,000 incidents, amounting to an estimated £2.4 billion, recorded by Action Fraud, CIFAS, and UK Finance may be well below the true number of fraud cases committed.

The Government has stated that combatting fraud is a key priority. The Joint Fraud Taskforce was relaunched in October 2021 and a new Fraud Strategy is expected to be published later this year. The Crown Prosecution Service has also launched an Economic Crime Strategy to improve the criminal justice response.

The session will examine what practical steps the Government intends to take combat fraud. This will include how the justice system can better uncover and prosecute such crimes, but also how victims can be better supported and compensated.

It will also examine how the finance, technology and communication industries are responding to the everchanging fraud landscape, particularly in information and intelligence sharing.
