Committee to take evidence on the work of the Attorney General

17 July 2020

The Justice Committee will hold an online live broadcast meeting on 21 July 2020 at 2.30pm on the work of the Attorney General.

Purpose of the session

The aim of this session is to provide an opportunity for the Committee to question the new Attorney General on the discharge of her duties as the principal legal adviser to the Government and as head of the Law Officers' Departments.

The session is also an opportunity to examine the Attorney General's role in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic; to explore issues around disclosure; and to ask the Attorney General questions relating to the Committee's inquiry into private prosecutions. One of that inquiry's terms of reference is the Attorney General's role in supervising private prosecutions; certain offences require the consent of the Attorney General before a private prosecution can begin.

Witness

 Tuesday 21 July

At 2.30pm

  • Rt Hon Suella Braverman QC MP, Attorney General for England and Wales and Advocate General for Northern Ireland
