Call for Evidence

The Cabinet Office Freedom of Information Clearing House

The Cabinet Office is responsible for Freedom of Information (FoI) policy. The Cabinet Office’s FoI Clearing House advises departments on handling certain FoI requests and coordinates responses across Government. In April this year, the Cabinet Office lost a legal bid to withhold information about aspects of the way in which the Clearing House operates. In light of this, the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Select Committee is holding an inquiry into the Cabinet Office’s implementation of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

We welcome written submissions addressing the following issues;

  • The Cabinet Office’s compliance with and implementation of the Freedom of Information Act 2000;
  • The role and operation of the Cabinet Office Freedom of Information Clearing House, including:
    • Its handling of the cases that come to it;
    • Its role in advising on and coordination of the handling of Freedom of Information cases across Government.

The Committee welcomes evidence on the issues set out above.

The deadline for submissions is Thursday 30 September 2021 17:00.
