Unequal impact? Coronavirus, disability and access to services
The sub-inquiry will focus on overcoming problems faced by disabled people who need access to essential services during the coronavirus pandemic, as set out below. It will draw on evidence to our Unequal impact: Coronavirus (Covid-19) and the impact on people with protected characteristics inquiry. If you’ve already submitted evidence to our main Unequal impact inquiry about these issues, you don’t need to submit it again.
Terms of reference
Written submissions should address one or more of the following terms of reference. If you can, you should both describe problems you know about and recommend ways to overcome them:
- The effectiveness and accessibility of Governmentcommunications and consultationwith disabled people during the pandemic;
- Disabled people’saccess to foodand the effectiveness of the Government’s response to reported problems;
- Disabled people’s access tohealthcareservices, including treatment for COVID 19 and access to other healthcare services;
- Themental healthof disabled people, including the effects of isolation, access to mental health services and the implications for disabled people of temporary changes to the Mental Health Act;
- Social carefordisabled people in their homes and in residential care settings, including the effects of easements to duties in the Care Act and the approach to monitoring and review of these changes; and
- Disabled people’s access toeducationduring the pandemic.
We want to hear about your experiences and your views on these issues, and what you want the Government and others to do to make things better, so that we can make recommendations for change. You can submit written evidence until Monday 13 July.
If your submission is accepted by the Committee, it will usually be published online. It will then be available permanently for anyone to view. It can’t be changed or removed.
If you have included your name or any personal information in your submission, that will be published too. Please consider how much personal information you want or need to share. Your contact details will never be published.
Decisions about publishing evidence anonymously, or about accepting but not publishing evidence, are made by the Committee. If you want to ask the Committee to keep your evidence anonymous (we’ll publish your evidence but not your name or personal details) or confidential (the Committee will read your evidence, but it won’t be published) then please tick the box on the form. This lets the Committee know what you would like but the final decision will be taken by the Committee.
